Why Drinking Coffee Can be a Good Thing

Most people who have a cup or two of coffee in the morning do it for the boost of energy it provides. The average 8 ounce cup of coffee has enough caffeine to stimulate energy, memory, mood and cognitive function to help people get going on their day’s responsibilities. Caffeine works by stimulating the release of dopamine, norepinephrine and other neurotransmitters.

Although the primary reason people enjoy coffee in the morning is an increased energy level, there are some additional benefits as well (like erectile dysfunction treatment?). While drinking too much coffee or other caffeinated beverages can cause nervousness and over-stimulation in some people, the beverage is also high in healthy antioxidants. Research has shown coffee drinkers to be less vulnerable to a number of serious diseases.

Obesity has become a serious health risk within the past several decades, and caffeine can help in weight loss efforts. This is because it increases metabolism and increases fat burning by at least 10 percent. The stimulating effect of caffeine on the nervous system results in fat cells breaking down.

Although the specific reason is not clear, people who regularly drink coffee have a significantly lower risk of being affected by type 2 diabetes.
